Andrew Wollitzer, Pastor

Andrew first came to Berkeley Covenant in 2002 and has been our Senior Pastor since 2008. He deeply desires that we as the church be a people of authentic and humble faith who desire to truly live out what we proclaim.  Andrew's path has been significantly influenced by the early church and Ecumenism, drawing from Eastern Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant sources,in addition to his own Jewish roots; these inform his understanding of what it means to follow the “Apostolic Faith.”  He can often be found at local coffee shops and is usually hoping to be engaged in deep, honest conversations.  In his free time, Andrew loves spending time with family and friends and being outdoors as much as possible.  Among his favorite authors are George Macdonald, N.T. Wright, J.R.R. Tolkien, and the early church Fathers.

Joshua Moritz Ph.D., Director of Christian Formation

Joshua and his wife Melissa both grew up in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. After attending Calvin College in Michigan and Moravian Seminary in Bethlehem, Joshua came to Berkeley in 2001 to pursue doctoral studies examining the interface between philosophy, theology, and the natural sciences. Joshua has worked as both a Biblical archaeologist and a university professor and holds academic degrees in numerous fields (including philosophy, theology, history, ancient languages, and biology). Joshua began teaching adult education classes at Berkeley Covenant Church in 2002 and he also teaches undergraduate philosophy at the University of San Francisco, theology at the Jesuit Graduate School of Theology at Santa Clara University, theology and science at the Graduate Theological Union, and theology classes at the School of Applied Theology in Berkeley. Joshua is Managing Editor of the academic journal Theology and Science and he has authored numerous books and articles, including Science and Religion: Beyond Warfare and Toward Understanding (Anselm Academic, 2016). Joshua has served as the Director of Christian Formation at Berkeley Covenant Church since April 2017. When he’s not having deep conversations about God, philosophy, theology, or science, Joshua enjoys carpentry, camping, hiking, fencing, and especially playing Legos with his son Xavier.
